10/15:

The year end cookout has come and gone officially putting an end to another softball season. Thanks to everyone for helping out and pitching in. Special thanks to Phil Denise for use of the fantastic sound system and also to Fred Duffus for the hard work he put into planning the event.

A detailed recap of the events with pictures and video can be found here:

www.dereksnyder.net/07cookout.html

10/12:

The cookout is all set for Block Park, Saturday 10/13 from 12:30 to 6PM.

The schedule of events includes:

  • HR Derby
  • Bocce
  • Golf Challenge
  • Softball Pitching Challenge

10/1:

We're currently looking for a new venue for the cookout. Fred's place is no longer an option due to septic issues and Block Park would cost $255 to reserve. If anyone has a good idea for Plan C please pass it along.

9/13:

The first annual post-season team cookout will be held on Saturday 10/13, at Fred's house. The cookout starts at 12:30 and will go until dusk. Please bring a covered dish. There will be games and competitions for all ages, so get your rest beforehand.

For directions contact the usual suspects.

9/11:

I wanted to personally thank all of our players for their contributions this year and also for their commitment to our team.  In the 16 years I've been running this team this has been the most talented and more importantly the most fun team I've had the privilege to coach, and in the end having fun is what softball is really all about.  Our dedicated players are the number one reason why we are right in the mix year after year.  Every single member of our team played so hard week after week to give us the chance to not just make the playoffs but to make a run for the championship.  Even though we fell short of that goal, it’s safe to say the 2007 season was a resounding success.

Also, our loyal fans deserve a big thank you for all of their support and for all of the “behind the scenes” things they do for the team as well.

See you next year!

   ---Management

9/8:

Several players now have updated pictures.

9/7:

Millens was defeated by the Junkyard Dogs 2 games to 1 in the semifinal playoff matchup ending the season.

9/1:

An update on the White Eagle vs. Eagle II playoff series:

  • Eagle II scores 3 in the top of the 7th to win game 1 by 1 run.
  • Eagle II scores 5 in the bottom of the 4th to take a 4 run lead when the lightning suspended the game. The game will be continued from that point, with Eagle II having runners on 2nd and 3rd.

Here are the belated headlines from the 8/09 victory over Cannonballs.

8/27:

White Eagle defeated Cannonballs 7-5 on Monday night, clinching first place. Millens ends up in 2nd. The first round playoffs are as follows:

  • Thursday, 8/30 - White Eagle vs. White Eagle II - 6:00 Point
  • Thursday, 9/06 - Millens vs. Junkyard - 6:00 Point
  • Thursday, 9/13 - Upper C Championship - 6:00 Block
  • Thursday, 9/20 - Upper C champ vs. Lower C champ - 6:00 Point

8/25:

Needing to win both games to clinch first place, Millens beat White Eagle II 20-13 but lost to the Charlton Jets 19-18. Game one featured a Fred Duffus 3 run HR, during which he set the single season RBI record (59).

In game two, Millens survived a 13 run 2nd inning and battled back to pull within 4 going into the final frame. Lou Denise lead the 7th off with a homer. With one out, Mike Goodrich, Travis Jones and Garrett Liese each reached safely to put the tying run on first base. Scott Liese popped out to 3B, but Kevin Jones followed with a two run single. Needing a base hit to tie the game, Kevan Dudek lined out to CF to seal the victory for the Jets.

Millens ends the season a very respectable 14-4.

The playoff implications are as follows. There is one remaining league game on Monday 8/27 at Point (6PM) - a makeup game where White Eagle (13-4) faces off against Cannonballs (9-8).

  • If White Eagle wins, Millens ends up in 2nd place due to White Eagle having the tiebreaker based on head to head runs. Millens would then play Thursday 9/6 at Point vs. Junkyard (6PM, best of 3).
  • If Cannonballs win, Millens ends up in 1st place and would face White Eagle II on Thursday 8/30 at Point (6PM, best of 3).

8/17:

The 8/16 game vs. the Jets has been rained out. The makeup game will be part of a doubleheader on Friday, 8/24. The makeup game will be scheduled for 9:00, immediately following our 8PM game vs. Eagle II.

Millens Recycling, White Eagle and Eagle II have all clinched playoff spots. BJ Cannonballs need to win both remaining games to get "in", otherwise Junkyard gets the last spot. All four seed positions are still up in the air however.

8/09:

Congratulations are in order for Millens Recycling, who clinched a playoff birth on Thursday night. With a 13-3 record with two games remaining, Millens is guaranteed either first or second place.

7/20:

Several people have requested they have "at bat" music posted on their roster page - a few have now been posted, with more to come.

Also, coming this fall - ask Hope for more details...

7/17:

The Cue Shot is back! Garrett "G-Man" Liese was added to the roster today and will see some time for the stretch run.

7/6:

The 7/5 game has been rained out. The makeup game against JK's will be Monday, 7/16, 8:30 at Kingston Point.

Great news! Ron Johnson will be playing full time the rest of the year!

Below are the huge headlines from the 7/6 Daily Freeman.

6/2:

A current weather forecast has been added to the games page, courtesy of The Weather Channel.

5/10:

The new shirts are in and they look great! The shirts were created by Johnsons Signs and Tees on Wilbur Ave. As usual they were extremely easy to work with and their prices can't be beat.

See the sample below:

4/18:

The C League schedule was released today. Opening day for Millens is Thursday 4/26. We play at 9:00 at Kingston Point. A full schedule is available in the Games section.

4/15:

Today's practice has (obviously) been cancelled due to inclement weather. Next scheduled practice is Thursday 4/19, 6PM at Block.

4/12:

It's finally been decided that C league will play on Thursday and Friday nights (same as last year). We've been moved to Upper C. The teams in our league are:

  1. Millens Recycling
  2. White Eagle
  3. Eagle II
  4. Millens Junkyard
  5. BJ Cannonballs
  6. Jets (from B)
  7. Riccardi's Hideaway (from B)

The lower C is comprised of:

  1. Team Alberts
  2. Heritagenergy
  3. JK's Daycare
  4. Heart GMS
  5. Campers Barn
  6. Murphy's Law

We'll be playing 18 games, each team in our league twice and each team from the Lower league once. Top four teams make the playoffs, with the Upper C champ facing off vs. the Lower C champ in the end.

Opening Day is set to be either 4/26 or 4/27. The league representative stated the schedule would be done sometime late next week.

4/11:

Brand new shirts have been ordered, but they may not arrive until after the first week.

4/7:

A fourth wave of historical players has been added.

4/6:

***Practice update

The 4/7 Saturday practice has been cancelled due to weather. Monday 4/9 is still a "go".

4/4:

Another wave of "historical players" has been added.

3/30:

Several softball practices have been scheduled.

  • Saturday, 4/7: Block Park 12-2
  • Monday, 4/9: Block park 6-8
  • Sunday, 4/15: Kingston Point 12-2
  • Thursday, 4/19: Kingston Point 6-8
  • Saturday, 4/21: Kingston Point 12-2

3/28:

The softball board met tonight to place the teams and set up the leagues. Unfortunately, all teams did not have rosters in. Additionally, due to the number of teams signed up this year, drastic realignment may be necessary. Unfortunately, the board isn't scheduled to meet again until 4/11, so no teams will know what night they play on until at least then.

The season is still scheduled to start the last week of April.

A schedule of practices should be available by this weekend.

3/25:

Season statistics have been added to the bottom of each year's page within the Team History section.

The second wave of historical players has been added.

3/17:

Lifetime totals for all players have been added on the Team History page. Several "historical players" now have their own page that can be accessed by clicking on their name, with more to come in the future.

3/11:

Lifetime and Single Season Leaders have been added to the bottom of the Team History page.

Coming this spring - video interviews by our in house journalist team.

2/28:

Lifetime statistics have been added for players on the active roster - click on a player on the Roster page to access.

2/27:

Welcome to the all new Millens Recycling softball page. The 2007 organizational meeting was held on 2/25/07. Below is a listing of several newsworthy items from the meeting:

  • We will be using a different ball, a .44 cork core, that supposedly performs more consistantly.
  • A home run rule has been instituted; each team can hit three total home runs- everything thereafter is a single.
  • There will be a box that extends six feet behind the pitching rubber. The pitcher does not have to pitch from the rubber - it will be legal to pitch from anywhere inside that box as long as the pitcher presents the ball first.
  • Rather than Thursday/Friday, we may be playing on Thursday/Monday or solely on Mondays.
  • Lastly, the season starts the week of 4/25.

In the coming weeks, you will find player bios, lifetime stats for active players, video clips, player blogs, and much more.

Old news can be found in the News Archive.
