Event One - Home Run Derby
The results of the first round:
In his first time swining a bat all year, George came within 10 feet for taking one deep. Fred and Lou moved into the final round. Below is a clip of one of Tony's at bats in the first round.
After six swings in the final round, Fred and Lou were tied with zero home runs. Fred connected with a deep blast on his seventh swing to take the lead by one. Video below (with celebration music):
Lou's attempt to tie Fred fell just short, giving Fred the derby title 1-0. Lou's final swing video:
Afterwards, Fred was forced to wear the championship necklace for the remainder of the day:
Event Two - Bocce Six teams signed up for the bocce tournament. In round one, Lou and Fred destroyed Phil C. and Aubrey. Next, Kevan and Hope were beating Derek and Scott when the bocce ball was injured, splitting completely in half.
The injured bocce ball halted the tournament making Lou, Fred, Kevan and Hope co-champions.
Event Three - Golf Chip Shot Challenge For the golf chip shot challenge, Scott, Lou, Derek, Phil D., Tony and Fred faced off. The top two closest to the bucket from about 50 yards would move on to the final round. Scott was the closest overall, and Lou's shot was just closer than Tony's. In the finals, Scott landed another great shot to take the title.
Event Four - Pitching Challenge The final challenge of the day was pitching a softball into a bucket from 25 feet away. Scott, Lou, Derek, George, Phil D., Kevan, Fred and Hope participated. After round one, Scott, Lou and Phil D. each had one ball in. In the final round, Phil D. had zero, Scott had one but Lou took the title of pitching messiah with two in. Special congratulations go to the People's Athlete Lou Denise, who was in the finals of each challenge.
